Accessories for Success

I wanted to share a couple of the accessories that I use as a part of my health recipe.
1. Heart rate monitor - I try and work out by heart rate zones (http://walking.about.com/cs/fitnesswalking/a/hearttraining_2.htm) and my heart rate monitor allows me to track what zone I am in. Also, my monitor tells me how many calories I have burned - which is very motivating to me.
2. Notebook - I keep track of my workouts so I know what exercises I do, how much weight I am using, do I need to change anything the next time I work out. I find keeping track helps me see progress which is very helpful.
3. Food Journal - every once in awhile I do a check on how many calories I am consuming each day, especially after incoroprating new foods into my diet. Portions can be very deceiving, writing down what I eat makes me very aware of what and how much I am eating.

What is your favorite accessory? What will help you be successful? Or what are you struggling with and not sure what accessory could help you?

Be strong, be honest, and enjoy life

  1. I love the free app on my droid called "my fitness pal". It tracks everything for me; weight, measurements, activity, calories, fat, protein, fiber, vitamins, etc. It will calculate how many calories you need to lose weight or to maintain and it keeps track of it all for you. It has a bar code scanner for foods that have a bar code or you can search for nutrition info on foods that don't have a bar code, then just hit add and it adds it to your food diary for the day. It makes it soooooo easy to keep track of everything. It doesn't get much easier than a bar code scanner! You can also access all the info online and I think it will automatically post updates on your progress on facebook, although I haven't used that feature yet.
